PARTNERSHIP WITH PALOMINO SCHOOL

SC del Sol helps kids who love the game and seek a highly competitive and structured club environment but just don't have the money to do so. Without a club scholarship they simply couldn't afford it. The Latino community and refugees from the Middle East, South Asia and Africa are beneficiaries of these scholarships as well as provided with free clinics and training equipment.
SC del Sol has been providing volunteer instruction twice weekly for the last several months at Palomino School on 29th Street and Paradise Lane in north Phoenix. The coaches work with about 20 kids from Kindergarten thru 3rd grade and about 40 kids from 4th-6th grades. Mark Lowe, Director of Coaching, explains, “Skill development for the kids is critical – we call it skills, drills and thrills. Then, we arrange 4-5 small-sided scrimmage games for the kids to apply what they just learned in the skills session. It’s a valuable time for the kids to improve and play well.” Molly Kemp, 21st Century Community Learning Centers Grant Manager for the Paradise Valley Unified School District #69, and who is responsible for the after school programs at Palomino, suggests that the program is more about character building and provides a positive environment for the kids. “These kids are exposed to gangs and other bad influences, but thanks to SC del Sol and their efforts, they are now occupied and given a better quality school day. They’ve made their world a better place.”
The partnership will grow on many levels in the coming months. Please check back here for updates.
