SC del Sol '94 Girls-Armstrong U-18 traveled to Colorado October 28-30 and gained a split with two very powerful Elite Clubs National League teams. On Saturday, the team lost a very close contest 2-1 with Colorado Real '94. Cali Farquharson (Arizona State) scored the lone goal for SC del Sol.

'94s beat ECNL national champion San Diego Surf, sweep another weekend series
SC del Sol '94 Girls-Armstrong U-18 are currently on a hot streak and are showing the nation that Arizona soccer is as formidable as any in the country. On Saturday, the girls beat the defending ECNL national champions 4-3. After SC del Sol went up 3-0 in the second half of play, Surf changed its lineup and produced 3 quick goals of its own. With just minutes left in the game, Daisha Oglesby (Nevada) saved the victory with the final goal of the game. SC del Sol 4 and Surf 3. Oglesby scored two goals for the game, while Lucy O'Leary (Loyola Marymount) and Emily Paxton (Colorado) each had one. Cadie Naquin (Columbia) MaKenzie Berryhill (Arizona State) and Cali Farquharson (Arizona State) had assists in the very exciting contest.
The final contest of the weekend was against Colorado Storm on Sunday. SC del Sol dominated the entire game and eventually won by a final score of 5-0. Cali Farquharson (Arizona State) scored a hat-trick (three goals), while Emily Paxton (Colorado) also had a great game scoring two goals of her own. Paxton also assisted on two goals, while goalkeeper Laura Glew (George Mason) shut the door and secured the shutout.
The girls have now won nine out of ten Elite Clubs National League games and are currently in second place behind Colorado Rush, the only team that has beaten them in conference play this season. The girls will be traveling to Colorado next weekend, October 28th, to try to avenge that one ECNL 3-2 defeat and remain in contention to play in the 2012 national championships in June.
Wow..... SC del Sol '94 girls come together in ECNL Phoenix matchups, win all three games
SC del Sol '94 Girls-Armstrong U-18 are certainly hitting their stride with unbelieveably strong play during the Elite Clubs National League weekend here in Phoenix. The girls won all three games against very strong competition and are now among the top eight teams in the ECNL Challenge A Bracket.
The first game saw the girls rally from a one goal halftime deficit against national champion FC Milwaukee when Katie Naquin drove home a penalty kick to tie the score at 1-1. Minutes later, Lauren Doud found McKenzie Berryhill at the 40 and Berryhill put the ball in the net from there making the score 2-1 SC del Sol. It didn't take long for McKenzie to return the assist favor finding Cali Farquharson on a perfect pass. Cali found the back of the net and made the final score 3-1.
Win number two on the weekend was very hard-fought contest with the Mustangs of northern California. McKenzie Berryhill took a great pass from Lucy O'Leary and banged the ball home for a 1-0 lead. Unfortunately, the excellent and very physical California girls tied the score at 1-1 by halftime. The score continued at 1-1 until Emily Paxton scored on a Katie Naquin corner kick with only minutes to go in the game. SC del Sol hung on the big victory.
The last game was close for a very long time until Cali Farquharson found Emily Paxton open at the front of the net for a 1-0 lead at the half against the Sockers from Illinois. Although the Sockers played very hard, SC del Sol was on its game and dominated the scoring in the second half with three more goals to make the final 4-0. Cassie Beckwith scored a beautiful goal unassisted, Lauren Doud headed a perfect pass to McKenzie Berryhill for a score and Berryhill hit Farquharson for the final score. Laura Glew had an oustanding game stopping great shots time after time to preserve the shutout.
SC del Sol '94 Girls - Armstrong look strong, take two games from Las Vegas teams in ECNL
SC del Sol '94 Girls-Armstrong U-18 had a fantastic weekend of soccer outscoring its opponents 9-2 overall and gaining two victories in Elite Clubs National League play. Saturday, Cali Farquharson (Arizona State) scored four goals against Neusport '94 Girls to lead the way. Rachel Ressler (uncommitted '95) and Daisha Oglesby (Nevada) also scored for SC del Sol. The final score was 6-2. Gaining assists for SC del Sol were Rachel Ressler, Emily Paxton (Colorado) Danielle (uncommitted), Cali Farquharson, while MaKenzie Berryhill (Arizona State) and Lauren Doud (Northern Arizona) each had two.
On Sunday, the team played Las Vegas Premier '94 and continued the excellent play, taking the game 3-0. Emily Paxton led the way with two goals and Cali Farquharson added the other. Katie Naquin (Columbia), Daisha Oglesby and MaKenzie Berryhill had assists. Laura Glew (George Mason) recorded her second shutout in as many weekends for SC del Sol. The team now has a record of 5 wins and 3 losses on the season and will next compete in the Elite Clubs National League national tournament here in Phoenix October 7-9.
SC del Sol '94 Girls - Armstrong beat Sereno '94 White to improve its ECNL record to 2-1
SC del Sol '94 Girls-Armstrong U-18 defeated Sereno '94 White 1-0 Saturday, improving its record to 2-1. Cali Farquharson (Arizona State) scored with ten minutes to go in the second half to take the victory.
On September 10 the SC del Sol '94 Girls-Armstrong defeated Colorado Real to open the 2011-2012 Elite Clubs National League season on the right foot with an exciting 5-4 victory. Cali Farquharson collected 3 goals, Daisha Oglesby (Nevada) has one goal and Lucy O'Leary (Loyola Marymount) scored one.
The September 11 game with national runner-up Colorado Rush saw the girls lose a close contest 3-2 after leading the game twice. Cali Farquharson and Michaela Dooley scored for SC del Sol.
SC del Sol '94 Girls - Armstrong starts season at Blues Cup, will need some time to come together
SC del Sol '94 Girls - Armstrong U-18 started its 2011-2012 campaign with a win and two losses at the Blues Cup September 3-5. With new players at every level, the first game saw the girls play hard and strong, only to fall 2-0 to Cal Odyssey Red '94 from northern California. It was evident the team has chemistry to find, but will definately come together with the addition of three very good new players MacKenzie Berryhill, Morgan Frank and Tina Taylor.
In the second game, the team found its stride when newcomer MacKenzie Berryhill (Arizona State) broke out with a pass from Lauren Doud (Northern Arizona) and perfectly hit a streaking Daisha Oglesby (Nevada) to put Laguna Hills Eclipse White down 1-0. After Cali Farquharson made the score 2-0 - punching in a close shot that Cadie Naquin (Columbia) had set up with a high bomb from long range - the Eclipse finally got on the board with a nice shot that ruined an outstanding Laura Glew (George Mason) shutout to that point, making the score 2-1. But SC del Sol clamped down and shut the door for its first victory of the season.
The all-important third game would have put the SC del Sol into the quarterfinals with a win. One minute into the game that possibilty looked very promising. Forward Emily Paxton (Colorado) found Cali Farquarson (Arizona State) and neatly slid a perfect pass that Cali finished to put the team up 1-0. However, that lead was soon lost when a very good San Diego Surf '93/94 Premier team scored on a defensive miscommunication that would cost the team a goal and the lead. Premier eventually went on to win the match 3-1 after SC del Sol gave up an "own goal" that sealed the victory for the southern Californians with only a few minutes to go.
Overall, it was a very promising start to the season considering this team had not played a game together. The competiton was excellent and the girls showed enough speed, strength and moxy to make the near future look very bright. Good luck girls... make this season your best ever before heading off to play college soccer next fall!
SC del Sol '94 Girls - Armstrong plays well at the Denver Elite Clubs National League Championships, will remain up in Challenge A
SC del Sol '94 Girls - Armstrong U-17 played three very good teams in Denver, winning two and losing one. The two victories will allow the team to stay in the Challenge A division for the 2011-2012 Elite Clubs National League season.
The girls started by practically dominating every phase of the game and beating the D'Feeters SC '94 team from Texas 2-0 with two outstanding goals from Arizona State University bound Cali Farquharson.
The second contest saw the girls take a 1-0 halftime lead and built it to 2-0 before the Utah Avalanche scored to make the game 2-1 late. SC del Sol hung on for the 2-1 victory with goals by Colorado University recruit Emily Paxson and one by Cali Farquharson.
In the third and final game, the girls played a bit short-handed when coach Armstrong decided to use Cali Farquharson, Zoe Olm and Emily Paxson for the SC del Sol '93 game. The girls then lost 4-0 to an excellent Colorado Rush team that has two of the very top college recruits in the country playing for it.
Overall, the girls played very sound soccer and did themselves proud by garnering enough points to stay in the ECNL Challenge A division. That is very important because the team will now be able to play the best of the best U-18 soccer teams in America this up-coming season while getting set to go off to play soccer at the college level in the fall of 2012. Well done girls!
SC del Sol '94 Girls - Armstrong loses State Cup championship to late PK call
SC del Sol '94 Girls - Armstrong U-17 played Tucson Soccer Academy '94 Red on May 14 looking for its first Arizona State Cup championship after having been to the finals four of the six years possible. Unfortunately, 2011 would not be the year the girls would finally hoist the gold trophy.
The first half started in fine fashion for SC del Sol with Missy Kettelkamp scoring early with a header off of a corner kick by Zoe Olm. TSA countered by changing its lineup and the half ended with the one lone goal. SC del Sol 1 - TSA 0.
TSA came our fighting in the second half and scored an early goal of its own when a defensive miscue allowed a TSA striker to split the defenders in the middle and went in alone on the keeper. One slide-step and a poke later the ball was in the back of the net and the score was tied at 1-1. From that point the game was played relatively evenly with both teams played hard-nosed soccer.
With two minutes remaining and many starters on both teams on the benches resting and gearing up for overtime, a TSA attacker dribbled the ball into the box where she tried to turn sharply and went down hard. Then horror... a penalty kick was called on SC del Sol. Katelyn Lopez of TSA made the PK that would seal the finals victory for TSA 2-1.
TSA will now represent Arizona for the 1994s at Regionals June 19-26 in Bloise, Idaho. Good luck.
SC del Sol '94 Girls - Armstrong to play for U-17 Arizona State Cup championship
SC del Sol '94 Girls - Armstrong U-17 earned a chance to play for its first Arizona State Cup championship with wins over arch-rival Sereno '94 White on Saturday and TSA '94 Red on Sunday of last weekend. SC del Sol defeated the five-time defending champion Sereno girls 1-0 on a goal by Arizona State University commit Cali Farquharson with only seconds remaining in the game on a windy pitch. The girls were elated to finally beat the team that had kept them from winning state championships in the finals on four previous occasions.
The win over Sereno created a situation where SC del Sol would have to defeat TSA '94 Red twice (due to the AYSA double-elimination format) to claim the state championship. On a very windy day, SC del Sol hung in after being down 1-0 to a free kick to the upper right corner that put TSA up 1-0. TSA then went into a defensive mode for the rest of the game, which proved to be their undoing. With time running out SC del Sol continued to push and fight to get the game into overtime. Luckily, as fate would have it, SC del Sol literally scored with two second to go on an "own goal" that went off the head of a TSA defender. FATE and the girls' resolve to keep fighting to the last second saved the day. In overtime, SC del Sol kept up the pressure and scored two goals to secure the 3-1 victory. The first was a beautiful shot by Cali Farquharson and the second put the game away with only seconds remaining when Lauren Doud started a break-out with a long pass to forward Rachel Ressler, who ran it up on the keeper before putting a perfect pass to the waiting foot of teammate Cassie Beckwith for the score. Game over - SC del Sol 3 and TSA Red 1. Unfortunately, this hard-fought game resulted in both teams being given red cards and will now be missing players for the championship game. One player for SC del Sol and two players for TSA Red. An appeal for one of the TSA girls to be reinstated for the final game is pending.
The win now sets up a one-game championship showdown to be played at Rose Mofford on May 14th at 10:00am on Field #2. Good luck girls... bring home the GOLD!
SC del Sol '94 Girls win two, Sereno '94 White loses to set up rematch in State Cup loser bracket
After winning two more games in the loser bracket, the SC del Sol '94 Girls-Armstrong (U-17) soccer team now finds itself in position to move into the championship series with a win over Sereno '94 White next Saturday, May 7th. The girls first beat its sister team, SC del Sol - Brynes, on Saturday winning 5-1 on two goals by Emily Paxson, one by Meaghan Pasbrig, one by Missy Kettelkamp and an "own goal" given up by the SC del Sol - Byrnes defense. The second game of the weekend saw SC del Sol - Armstrong beat Cisco '94 Black 2-0 on two goals by Arizona State commit Cali Farquharson. The game was marred by many missed opportunities, but a win is a win is a win. On to next weekend.
A loss to TSA Red put five-time defending champion Sereno '94 White in the loser bracket for the first time in the history of the team. With a win over Sereno on Saturday, the SC del Sol '94 Girls - Armstrong would move into the championship series with TSA Red. The girls would have to win back-to-back games with TSA to win the state championship. So, lose to Sereno Saturday... third place. Beat Sereno Saturday and lose one of two games to TSA Red... second place. Win three games... ARIZONA STATE CUP CHAMPIONS. Go for it girls... you have the talent... get it done!
SC del Sol '94 Girls - Armstrong collect two State Cup wins, position themselves for a strong finish
The SC del Sol '94 Girls-Armstrong (U-17) soccer team is moving up in the losers bracket and will get back in touch with the leaders with one more good weekend of soccer. On Saturday, April 16th, the girls started the long road back with a 2-0 win over the AZ '94 Hammers. Marina McMorrow scored first to put her thumb print back on the team after sitting out with an injury for what seemed like years. Cali Farquharson scored the second goal and the girls coasted in from there. SC del Sol '94 - Armstrong 2 - AZ '94 Hammers 0.
The second game of the weekend saw Flagstaff '94 United put up a good fight for much of the game. After a scoreless first half, Cali Farquharson took a run twenty minutes into the second half that resulted in her being held in the box. She actully scored on the play, but the referee blew his whistle early and nullified the goal. Luckily, Cali scored, again, on the penalty kick and SC del Sol lead 1-0. Minutes later, defender Missy Kettlekamp scored on a header off of a corner kick by Jasmine Arollo. The game finished SC del Sol 2 - Flagstaff United 0.
SC del Sol '94 - Armstrong will not play again until April 30th, when it will play SC del Sol '94 - Brynes. The winner will play in the semifinal game the next day, May 1st. Unfortunately, the loser will be eliminated from the tournament.
SC del Sol '94 - Armstrong starts Arizona State Cup with an firey OT thriller... and eventual loss!
The SC del Sol '94 Girls-Armstrong (U-17) soccer team played its arch-rival, Sereno '94 White, Sunday to open up state cup play, eventually losing in PKs 4-2. An amazing number of spectators came to see this epic battle of two teams filled with future Division I players that have come to dislike even the notion of walking off the pitch defeated. Add in the fact that these teams have had teammates leave for the other side at least 14 times over the years and met for the state championship five of the last six years and watch out! One Sereno parent was heard saying, "I wish we could put all the best together and play for a national championship." And that's true, it's shame that will never happen. So, we enjoy what we have... an epic Arizona civil war in cleats and hair bands.
The game was a very hard-fought battle in windy conditions with SC del Sol having the upper-hand for most of the time, but not being able to find satisfaction of scoring in regulation. Playing with the wind in the first half, Lucy O'Leary hit the crossbar from 30 yards out after a penalty offered up a free-kick. The rebound was also shot on goal but the ball squirted harmlessly out of bounds off of a defender's outstretched leg. That was the best chance of many chances SC del Sol forced Sereno to defend. Sereno was kept in their own end most of the half with a great amount of SC del Sol pressure.
The second half was a dog-fight with many hard hits by both teams. The physical nature of the game was as brutal as any college game. Playing against the wind, again, the SC del Sol girls kept the ball down and had the better of the field play, only to come up short on scoring... resulting in a regulation tie.
After two scoreless overtimes, the PKs began with SC del Sol kicking first. The first two kickers, Cali Farquharson and Lauren Doud, blew fast-balls right by the Sereno goalkeeper. Unfortunately, Sereno answered with two scores of its own and the count was tied at 2-2. That's when high expectations turned to disbelief and utter disappointment for SC del Sol. The next two SC del Sol kickers missed the frame and Sereno made all of its shots... Sereno 4 and SC del Sol 2.
SC del Sol will now need to take the long road back in the loser's bracket to get a shot at the 2011 state title. The next game with be April 17th against AZ Hammers '94. That's the bad news.... the good news is, this team has the ability to become Arizona State Cup Champions and will fight for it... no fear, no doubt. Go take it girls!
SC del Sol '94 - Armstrong will put strong March behind them and prepare for Arizona State Cup
The SC del Sol '94 Girls-Armstrong (U-17) soccer team made great strides in March competing at a very high level in three tournaments. The girls first traveled to San Antonio, Texas for two ECNL games and came away with a 2-1 loss versus league leading PDA '94 Girls and a 2-1 win over Ohio Primier. Lauren Doud scored the lone goal in the first game and Cali Farquharson and Lucy O'Leary scored in the second game.
The girls traveled to Las Vegas, Nevada the next weekend and also split two ECNL games. In the first game, SC del Sol was shut out 3-0 by Utah Avalanche and the second game was a 4-2 win over Neusport FC Green of Nevada. Jocelyn Jeffers scored all four goals in the win.
The final trip in March was back to Las Vegas where the girls really hit their stride and won four games by a total of 12 goals to one against four southern California teams, winning the championship for the Mandalay Bay Bracket. First up was San Diego Surf SC 93/94 where the girls won 3-0. Cali Farquharson scored two goals and Cassie Beckwith netted one. The second game, against Carlsbad Elite G93, was a 3-1 affair with Cali Farquharson scoring twice and newcomer Cadie Naquin, formerly of Sereno SC, getting her first goal for her new team. The third game was a thriller against Laguna Hills Eclipse White. Lauren Doud and Cali Farquharson scored to make it a 2-0 win in very windy conditions. The last game was a 5-0 romp in very cold and windy conditions. Daisha Oglesby found the back of the net twice while Lauren Doud, Emily Paxon and Caili Farquharson each pitched in one goal apiece.
The girls will now look forward to staying put for awhile and participating in the annual Arizona State Cup starting in April. First out of the gate for SC del Sol will be arch-rival Sereno SC. With all the players that have changed uniforms between these two teams over the years it is safe to say everyone better buckle up for that one!

SC del Sol '94 Girls finish as Challenge B runner-up in ECNL Championships, will move up to Challenge A
The SC del Sol '94 Girls - Armstrong finished as runner-up at the Elite Clubs National Tournament in Seattle and have now earned the right to move up to Challenge A for the 2010-2011 club season.
Needing to win this games to advance to the Challenge B championship, the first game saw the SC del Sol girls hand Challenge SC '94 of Texas South a 3-2 defeat with two goals being scored by Jocelyn Jeffers and one by Cali Farquharson. Texas led 2-1 at halftime and held leads twice in the game with scores of 0-1 and 1-2. But both times SC del Sol came roaring back and eventually took the lead for good at the 25:00 minuite mark of the second half. Ashley Stein, Jocelyn Jeffers and Makella Brems contributed assists for the SC del Sol. Laura Glew made some very important and impressive diving saves in goal to help preserve the victory. This win would put SC del Sol into the Saturday final with Arsenal FC ECNL of Southern California.
The second game in Seattle was essentially an exibition game with Connecticut FC CFC '94 United. The game was very intense and tightly contested until Jocelyn Jeffers stole the ball on a lazy pass by a defender and took it in unassisted for a score at the 35:00 minute mark of the first half. The game was then 1-0 at halftime. Marina McMorrow found Meaghan Pasbrig for another goal at the 24:00 minute mark of the second half to insure the 2-0 victory.
On to the Elite Clubs National League (ECNL) Challenge B final, SC del Sol '94 Girls - Armstrong vs Arsenal FC ECNL (CAS). Both teams came to play and felt each other out early. After much back and forth action, Arsenal found some daylight and scored two very nice goals within about five minutes of each other between the 24:00 and 29:00 minute marks to break the ice and take control of the game. Halftime 2-0 Arsenal. SC del Sol fought hard but just couldn't find a way past a very strong and persistent defense. Arsenal scored one more well-executed goal in the second half to win the Challenge B National Championship 3-0.

SC del Sol '94 Girls - Armstrong is shocked out of State Cup, finish 3rd
The SC del Sol '94-Armstrong girls lost a 2-1 shocker to TSA '94 Red of Tucson to end its Arizona State Cup run. Cali Farquharson had scored at the 20:00 minute mark on a laser shot from the left 18-yard mark and SC del Sol completely controlled the first half, but in the end it wasn't enough. The second half saw SC del Sol leading the game 1-0 and having it under control for a total of 65 minutes when TSA caught a break. The wind kicked up and allowed the keeper to get a freak assist. She kicked the ball nearly 60 yards on the fly and one big bounce later, her forward got control of the high-bouncer and tapped it in. Just two minutes later, TSA scored on a bang-bang play that started with an apparent hand-ball and ended with a surprising game-winning goal. Unfortunately, the referee didn't see the hand-ball (there's no whining in soccer) and that put SC del Sol down 2-1 with 12:00 minutes to play.
A fantastic effort with great pressure and a barrage of shots to tie the game came up short and - just like that - the girls were out of the tournament with a third place finish.
Nice run girls... your parents and coaches are very proud of what you accomplished under the circumstances. It was a very tough year physically and emotionally. But you showed great character, a lot of heart, and an impressive fighting spirit. You will get healthy and regroup soon. So look to the near future and get excited about the possibilities. The sky is the limit for you. Good luck in New Jersey and Seattle.
Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened!
State Cup: SC del Sol '94 Girls tie National #20 Sereno White in regulation, go down in PKs
The SC del Sol '94 Girls-Armstrong soccer team took Sereno '94 White to PKs (4-3) before losing 2-1 in the Arizona State Cup semifinal match in the winners bracket.
Sereno scored first when a ball caught up in a scrum in front of the SC del Sol net was tapped in at the 25:00 minute mark. At the 39:00 minute mark of the first half, Lucy O'Leary tied the score for SC del Sol at 1-1 with a beautiful free kick that curled into the upper left corner of the net from 23 yards. The keeper had no chance. Halftime 1-1.
In the second half, both teams came out fighting. SC del Sol had the better of the competition up to the 20:00 mark - when they really turned it on. Hounding and dominating their opposition with outstanding possession and ball skills, the girls just couldn't find the back of the net for the win. Sereno had the ball over the midline only twice in the last 12 minutes.
Overtime was a fierce battle with no score, which lead to the PKs. Katelyn Lare, Mekella Brems and Missy Kettlecamp scored and keeper Laura Glew blocked a Kate Boyle shot to put SC del Sol up 3-2. However, the next two Sereno players scored and the Sereno keeper had two nice blocks to steal the victory for Sereno '94 White.
SC del Sol '94 Girls beat Cisco 3-0
The SC del Sol '94 Girls-Armstrong soccer team played its quarterfinal match with Cisco '94 Black and came away with a very exciting 3-0 win. Kaylee Schlongo scored the first goal after Marina McMorrow had a shot blocked and it bounced out to Kaylee at the 30:00 minute mark of the first half. She hit her with a perfect pass and Daisha finished the job, making the score 2-0.
The only score of the second half came at the 18:30 minute mark when Marina McMorrow set up Cali Farquharson and Cali found the back of the net on a perfect shot to the upper right corner.

SC del Sol reaches State Cup finals with wins over TSA and Rush Nike
The SC del Sol '94 White girls kept their Arizona State Cup title hopes alive with wins over the two top Tucson teams this past weekend. In the first game, the girls held a 2-0 halftime lead with goals by Daisha Oglesby and Zoe Olm. However, the TSA girls showed a lot of heart and desire, in the blazing heat, to come back to score two goals of their own in the second half, pushing the game into overtime. SC del Sol had some very nice chances to score in overtime but could not find the back of the net. In PKs, Zoe Olm, Danielle Wilde, Lauren Doud and Laci Jones scored and goalkeeper Laura Glew knocked down two shots for a 4-2 advantage and a 3-2 SC del Sol victory.
On Sunday, SC del Sol White would play Tucson Rush Nike for the right to move on to the championship game. Rush had beaten SC del Sol in PKs one week earlier to force SC del Sol into the loser bracket. With only seven minutes gone in the first half, Ashley Stein served up a perfect cross and Nikki Adams would not be denied with her header to put del Sol up 1-0. The rest of the game went scoreless. SC del Sol had many very good chances to score, hitting the post twice, but the ball just wouldn't go in. SC del Sol moves to the championship game to face Sereno '94 White for the fourth year in a row. Last year, SC del Sol had Sereno on the ropes winning 2-0 with five minutes to go before a last-gasp effort forged two goals and a 2-2 tie with just seconds remaining. In overtime, an SC del Sol goal was remarkably disallowed when a del Sol player was pushed into the Sereno goalkeeper by a Sereno defender causing her to fall down. The ball was in the back of the net, unfortunately the referee had a bad angle and he discounted the score. SC del Sol was finally put away in extra PKs. It was a very competitive and well-played game, but resulted in the third runner-up trophy in a row for the SC del Sol girls. Hopefully, 2009 is the year for the girls to break through and win their first state championship. Good luck girls!

The game started quickly for del Sol with Marina McMorrow finding the back of the net on a header off the corner kick of Zoe Olm. Just minutes later, Zoe Olm found the net herself on another corner kick. Although difficult to see exactly what happend on the play, the ball apparently curled in untouched to put SC del Sol up 2-0.
The girls were playing great soccer until the unthinkable happened ten minutes after del Sol's second goal, a penalty in the box. A Blackhawk player was pulled down in the box 19 yards away from the goal. The Blackhawk penalty kick was good and SC del Sol only led 2-1 at the half.
With new life and playing with purpose, the Blackhawks came out fighting in the second half and scored a goal early making the score 2-2. Game on; the Hawks were now energized and playing much stronger. With just two minutes remaining in regulation and the game looking like it would go into overtime, Daisha Oglesby took a perfect pass from a midfielder, split two defenders and scored on a header after the ball hit the top of the crossbar and came directly down in back of the keeper, who was on the ground after tipping the initial shot. In PKs, Zoe Olm, Cali Farquharson, Lauren Doud, Makenna George, Kaylee Shalongo and Danielle Wilde all scored to give the teams it's first ever victory against the Eagles after having many ties in the past.

The team recently started the quest for state supremacy at the Blues Cup in California on Labor Day weekend. Both goals for SC del Sol were scored by JJ.
The team looks to be progressing very well . The Blues Cup tournament allowed the girls to gain team chemistry and confidence.
