SC del Sol is proud to partner with Special Olympics Arizona and North Valley Unified to create our very own Special Olympics Soccer Training program. This unique and groundbreaking program is open to any Special Olympics athletes or any other athlete with special needs or physical disabilities.
Once a week, our Special Olympics athletes join us for a hour of running, kicking, shooting and fun! All under the watchful eye of the SC del Sol coaching staff. The beauty of the program is that it is a peer-driven environment in which our SC del Sol players volunteer their time and provide guidance, mentorship and friendship. It is a fun, lively and energetic environment!
As an official Unified Program, we are eligible to participate in Special Olympics Unified Soccer Tournaments. This enables our Special Olympic athletes to compete alongside our SC del Sol player volunteers on the same field with the the shared goals of competition, sportsmanship and friendship.
This past season, SC del Sol Special Olympics worked with over 55 athletes and provided over 400 player volunteers at practices and games. In partnering with North Valley Unified, we entered three Unified Teams into the Four Peaks Area Regional Soccer Tournament in December 2016. One team took the gold medal and the other two earned bronze medals!
We conduct two FREE training programs during the season - one in the fall and one in the spring. Both sessions are eight weeks long. We accommodate all age groups and players are allowed to attend as many or as few practices as they wish. SC del Sol coaches and players are in attendance at every practice.
